BOOKISH RECAP: FIRST QUARTER OF 2018

Bookish Recap is my version of Stacking the Shelves post in which I talk about all the books that I read and posts that I shared on the blog in last three months. Linking up with Stacking the Shelves post by Tynga’s Reviews.

When it comes to reading, first quarter of 2018 was a meh period for me. I read 16 books and even though I DNFied only one of them, my average rating was 2.6 stars which is very low. On the other hand, blogwise, I had good last couple of months. After long pause in 2017 I have returned to bloggosphere and I'm enjoying blogging once again.

NEW ADDITIONS TO MY TBR E-LIST/BOOKSHELF:

First two books are eARC copies that I got either from Netgalley or Edelweiss. I'm equally excited to read them both in following weeks! I fell in love with blurb and cover of Pestilence so I purchased kindle copy as soon as it was available and I'm going to read it during Easter holiday. Fingers crossed it is a good one :) The rest are printed copies that I got for my birthday in February. I have been planning to read The Stand by Stephen King for ages so hopefully this is the year when I finally get to it LOL. The Secret History was a surprise present and I absolutely love Penguin's 25th Anniversary Edition! The last two are religious books that I picked up as a part of Easter preparations. I'm reading first one in my mother tongue at the moment and really enjoying it.

Glad you are back and enjoying blogging again. That is a low average for your books and hope next quarter is better. I will say I bought Educated because of your review and hope to get to it soon!

Aww I am so happy that my review persuaded you to read Educated. I think you will like it ;)

Thank you very much! I plan to pick my reads more carefully in upcoming months so I have hope for more 5 stars reads ;)

Thank you, Lara! I almost stopped blogging last year, so I am very glad to find joy in blogging once again :)
Yikes, sorry your overall rating was so low. That does sound like a pretty bad reading period. But yay for blogging! I haven't bought Pestilence yet cuz I have too many ARCs and other books right now and need to focus lol, but I plan to get to it eventually! All your desserts look so delicious!

I could not resist when it comes to Pestilence, ARCs went to the side and I started Pestilence yesterday instead :) However, so far it has been pretty boring and nothing special. But it is early in so hopefully it picks up soon!
I hope you find better reads in the next months - sometimes it can be difficult to find books that speak to you and deserve five stars. The cover of Pestilence is so pretty! *.* I hope the book lives up to its cover. ;)

Happy readings!

The more I read, the harder it is to find truly exceptional books... Guess my expectations have been too high lately, and they are rarely met. Thanks for stopping by, Thannya!
Eeesh. Sorry to hear about your reading. I hope your new books will help bring that average up. I'm looking forward to reading Pestilence. It sounds really good.

I started Pestilence and so far it is a bit boring :/ hopefully it picks up,I will hate if such great premise goes to waste.
Ooh that pie looks DELICIOUS!! And isn't Iron Gold huge?!😂I'm still only halfway through and I feel like I've been reading it forever haha. But glad you've found some more good books recently, because it sucks to read so many dodgy ones.

My very own tart tatin, I am proud of this pie :D And yes! Iron Gold is huge and super heavy BUT when it comes to Pierce Brown's books, the bigger the better ;)
I'm surprised at your rating for THUG, what didn't work for you? It will be interesting to hear another perspective, as I've only seen rave reviews. I picked up the new Kristin Hannah novel this month, but now you have me worried lol I ADORED The Nightingale, so I was super hopeful for great things from this one. R xx

THUG touches important topic, but writing and characterization is very weak in my opinion. You can read more of my thoughts on it here: http://readingismybreathing.blogspot.cz/2018/02/t...
Still, 3 stars is a good rating for me so do not be worried about The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah, I had some issues but all in all I enjoyed it :)
Exciting that you're back to blogging! It's such a great community :)

Also, Poo! I'm sorry to hear that you ran across so many crummy books this spring. You really need a boost. Whenever I hit a string of terrible ratings I reread one of my favourites to boost me back up

That is actually great idea! I plan to re-read some of my favorites in upcoming months and pick up my reads more carefully :) Thanks for stopping by, Rachael!
Yes! I really loved Educated. I really enjoyed The Great Alone and Station Eleven so I am glad to see you kind of like them too. Happy reading! We got some of the same for next quarter.

3 stars mean good/okay rating in my eyes so yes I did enjoy The Great Alone and Station Eleven as well even though I did not love them :)
