MY 2016 BACKLIST TBR + JANUARY IN PICTURES (OR POST IN WHICH I CONFESSED TO MY TEA AND CANDLES ADDICTION)

Stacking The Shelves is all about sharing the books you are adding to your shelves, may it be physical or virtual. This means you can include books you buy in physical store or online, books you borrow from friends or the library, review books, gifts and of course ebooks! Hosted byTynga’s Reviews.

WORD COUNT: 650 084

According to How Long to Read I read 650 084 words in January. I got stuck almost for two weeks reading one book (not fun) so I didn't read much this month. Also, only now I realized that my January reading list consisted strictly of YA novels only. Interesting.

GOODREADS CHALLENGE:

I plan to read (Game of Thrones) and re-read (Outlander, All Souls Trilogy) some big books in 2016 so I set my 2016 Reading Challenge to only 60 new books. And that's it. I refuse to stress myself this year when it comes to what and how much I am going to read.

MY 2016 BACKLIST TBR LIST:

When I saw that girls at Cuddlebuggery book blog decided that 2016 will be the year when they defeat their backlist TBR, I knew that I had to join their challenge. Rules are quite simple. I have to pick twelve books that I didn't manage to read in past years and read them in 2016, one book a month to catch up on my ever-growing TBR. So far I'm doing well since I already read first book from the list - Illuminae. I can't wait to finally read the other books on my list!

WHAT I READ IN JANUARY:

(pictures are linked to respective Goodreads page)

....

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff (5 STARS)
Illuminae provided superb, addictive and unique reading experience. I absolutely loved it and I seriously can't wait for the sequel!

Truthwitch by Susan Dennard (5 STARS)
If you are looking for new captivating YA fantasy series, look no further. Here are five reasons that will make Truthwitch your next book-hungover-worthy read.

Starbounds #2 and #3 by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner (2 STARS)
I have mixed feelings about this series. Some things I liked, some didn't sit well with me. Full reviews coming soon.

The Geek's Guide to Unrequited Love by Sarvenaz Tash (3.5 STARS)
This novel is super cute and nerdy (curdy!). And even though I wasn't blown away, I enjoyed reading it quite a lot. Full review later.

MY MONTH IN PICTURES:

I think it's time to confess to my obsession with scented candles and teas from dried herbs and/or fruits and photo document it. I even contemplated to join Instagram but decided to share these only on blog for now. Here are teas, candles and books that ruled my January.

admiring my Six of Crows copy / red berries scented tea candles

favorite January reads / vanilla-orange scented tea candles / tea from milk green tea leaves from Shanghai

January reviews on the blog / tea from ginger root and honey

WHAT DID YOU MISS THIS MONTH?

WHAT DID YOU ADD TO YOUR SHELVES RECENTLY?
HAVE YOU READ ANY OF ABOVE MENTIONED BOOKS?
ANYONE ELSE HERE ALSO ADDICTED TO CANDLES/TEA?

Never Miss a Post:

I am trying to read more older books too. I have so many I really need to work through them. I am interested in your reviews for Starbound #2 &3. I read the first one and liked it but didn't continue. Hope you enjoy your new books. Your pictures are lovely!

Thanks, Grace! I am kind of novice at taking book pictures so I am only discovering my "style" lol. Anyway, I plan to post reviews for Starbounds books later this month.
I really want to read Illuminae this year! I want to read The Raven Boys but I want the physical book, not ebook.
Outlander and Game of Thrones?! Girl, I wish you luck. Maybe this will motivate me to read them :)
Those pictures are so cute!!

Illuminae was amazing. Such an unique reading experience! It is definitely worth reading.
And I am already hooked on Game of Thrones, first book is spectacular :)
If you do join Instagram, let me know because I would love to follow you! These pictures are so gorgeous and I think that would be a great idea for you. Anyway, that backlist challenge sounds like a great idea. I really want to read Illuminae myself so I am happy to hear that worked out well for you and you loved it!

Thanks you Olivia :) I am still considering joining Instagram.
Illuminae was amazing. Such an unique reading experience! I cant wait for sequel.
I love your pictures!! Does this mean you have/will have an Instagram account?!?! This thought makes me VERY happy!! ♥

I love your Blacklist TBR! Becca and I joined a similar challenge this year called Rock your TBR Challenge, where we are challenging ourselves to read one book per month that's already on our shelves. It's definitely a great way to get some of the blacklisted books out of the way and not ONLY focus on ARCs, which we tend to do without even realizing. (At least I sure do!)

Sorry I haven't visited much this week... I was super sick and it left me pretty useless. Glad to be back! I have to head and check out your other posts from this past week now. :) Have a wonderful weekend, love! ♥

I am still not sure about Instagram. I am busy as it is with blog, goodreads and other social media. And I would rather spend time visiting and commenting on blogs than adding another social media to spend time on.
And Rock your TBR Challenge does sound pretty similar to the one I joined. I am not big on challenges but this is one I truly hope I will fulfill this year :)
Oh my goood. First of all: Good Luck with your backlist books! I also have The Raven Boys & The Immortal Rule on my TBR list ... Under the Dome is one that I already read & enjoyed! Hope you like them! :D

I've only read the first book of the Starbound series so far and thought it was average (rated it 3.5) so idk what to think of the rest now ... looking forward to reading your thought on them! I guess it'll help me decide whether to read them soon or not.

Also, if you ever start an Instagram account - LET ME KNOW!! Your pictures are INCREDIBLE and I love all the candles you pictures ... I bet they smell amazing, ugh! ♥

I have wanted to read Under the Dome what seems like forever but never actually got to it. So hopefully I will FINALLY read it this year!
I will post my Starbound review this month so I hope it will help you to decide whether you want to continue with series ir not.
And you are right, those candles smells amazing, wish you could smell them :)
I decided not to stress myself reading wise in 2016 too. As for backlist books I read a lot of them as it is, so I don’t need any challenge. Your photos are absolutely gorgeous, Lucia!

Thanks, Ksenia :) And not stressing myself with reading/blogging is also my motto for this year!
I'm ordering Truthwitch because of you. XD YOU WRITE A VERY NICELY CONVINCING REVIEW. HEHE. oh oh! And good on you for reading as much as you want and not stressing. :P I'm doing that too. I'm determined not to over-achieve with the reading this year, and even if I'm not the "fastest reader of ever" anymore...then so be it. I want to be sane and have time for blogging as well. XD

OH the pressure! But seriously, I am so happy that my fangirling review makes you want to read Truthwitch! I iwll stalk your updates on Goodreads when you start it :)
it seems like January was a pretty good month in terms of reading XD ILLUMINAE. Truthwitch. And that adorable looking book with the insanely long name. GIVE ME ALL. You take the most wonderful pictures, they're all so beautiful <3

Yes, I am quite content with books I read in January :) Especially Illuminae and Truthwitch. I highly recommend!
Thanks for lovely comment, Nirvana.
Omg Lucia I always drink tea (my favourite is camomile) and have a candle or candles lit when I am reading, and I'm often snuggled under a big fluffy blanket on the sofa!! Hahaha. SO I GET YOU. I also have a scented candle buying addiction (I am just about to purchase some this second lol!). I really need to read The Raven Boys too, but I'm waiting for the last one to come out I think... Good luck with reading Game of Thrones, I'm too scared to start! I didn't know you read the All Souls Trilogy! :O I LOVED book 1 and 2, but haven't been able to bring myself to read book 3 for reason xD xD Great post as always Lucia! ♥♥

I am HUGE fan of All Souls trilogy! I re-read it religiously every year. I love all three books with passion :) You need to read book #3, Anissa!
I was also scared of Game of Thrones books but now I cant understand why I wiated so long. So far, it is perfection!
And I love camomile tea too! I bought new fresh camomille herbs last week :)
If you join instagram, let us know! I don't do anything fancy with my photos but I love looking at photos of those that do :)

I'm also trying to read some older books this year, so naturally I've started with a bunch of new ones *sigh* soon though, soon. Illuminae is on my list as I didn't get to it last year either!

Illuminae is worth the time and investment. Printed book is so unique ana pretty. Happy reading, Wattle :)
Your backlist TBR has some good books in it! The Winner's Curse, Illuminae, and The Raven Boys are some of my favourites. I'm really interested to see what you think of Into the Dim.

I plan to read The Winner's Curse very soon, hopefully I will end up loving it as well :)
So many amazing books, candles and tea! I'm so glad you read some of my favourites here, including The Starbound trilogy, Winner's Curse and Illuminae! Good luck with reading more backlist books, it definitely takes the pressure off cos you're just relaxing and enjoying it.

So true! It feels really good to just read backlist titles without reviewing them for publishers :)
