WAITING ON WEDNESDAY: A Pound of Flesh

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Breaking The Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we’re eagerly anticipating.

A Pound of Flesh ( A Pound of Flesh #1)

Written by: Sophie Jackson

Published by: Gallery Books

Genre: Romantic Fiction

Release date: June 9th 2015

SYNOPSIS:

Orange Is the New Black meets Jennifer Probst’s New York Timesbestselling Marriage to a Billionaire trilogy, featuring a strong-minded prison tutor who discovers that her sexy bad-boy student is far more than he appears to be.

Haunted by nightmares of her father’s street murder fifteen years ago, Kat Lane decides to face her fears and uphold his legacy of helping others by teaching inmates at a New York prison. There she meets arrogant Wesley Carter, who’s as handsome as he is dangerous, as mysterious as he is quick-witted, and with a reputation that ensures people will keep their distance.

As teacher and student, Kat and Carter are forced to leave their animosities at the door and learn that one should never judge a book by its cover. As Carter’s barriers begin to crumble, Kat realizes there’s much more to her angry student than she thought, leaving them to face a new, perilous obstacle: their undeniable attraction to one another.

When Carter is released and Kat continues to tutor him on the outside, the obstacles mount. Can they fight the odds to make their relationship work? Will Kat’s family and friends ever accept her being with someone of his background? And will Kat’s discovery of Carter’s role on the night her father died force them apart forever...or unite them?

Why I'm Waiting:

Believe me, you do not want to miss this book. I read online version of this story years ago and loved it immensely. When I found out that author decided to edit and publish it, I was beyond excited. Now I cannot wait to revisit these awesome characters and relive their phenomenal story once again!

The title of this novel just made me laugh, seriously, A pound of flesh. Sounds like an order at the pork store, but also somewhat kinky.
I'm guessing it's the chemistry that got you interested in this. Never heard of it. Idk if I'll check it out, we'll see

Cheers,

Actually, "a pound of flesh" in this novel is reference to Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice where he used this collocation as "a figurative way of referring to a harsh demand or spiteful penalty—the consequences of defaulting on a desperate bargain". So nothing meaty or kinky :)
And it was chemistry and profound plot that got me interested in this story. I cannot wait to re-read published version.
Thanks for stopping by, Jen!
I have not heard of this author but clearly, based on your feedback and overall excitement *wink* I need to add this to my TBR. I love the cover...it's stunning!! ;)

Yay, I am so happy that this story peaked your interest :) I agree, cover is stunnig. I just wish they would not compare it other bestsellers at the beginning of the blurb because I think this story belongs to the league of its own. Thanks for stopping by :)
This sounds really unique and I love that it has a bit of an Orange is the New Black feel to it!

It does sound very unique! Thanks for stopping by and finding time to comment, Katie :)
This book sounds very interesting and different from the romance settings. It seems some hidden dilemmas and secrets await! :)

You hit the nail on the head, Pandora! This is very complex story :)
I have to be honest with you that the first time I saw the title and the cover, the first thing I thought of was that it was a zombie story O_O I pretty much associate "flesh" with man-eating abominations now. Haha. Can't wait to read this if you endorse it that much :)

LOL, you are not first to connect title with man-eating :P But in this case, "a pound of flesh" in this novel is reference to Shakespeare's The Merchant Of Venice where he used this collocation as "a figurative way of referring to a harsh demand or spiteful penalty—the consequences of defaulting on a desperate bargain". So nothing meaty ;)
