BLURB LOVE #5

Book blurb is the most important aspect when it comes to deciding what I want to read. It is usually what makes me add (or not add) book to my TBR. Imagine there is no cover, no title and you have no idea who wrote it. Would you read such a book based just on its blurb? Test yourself.

BLURB #1:

Blackbeard the pirate was known for striking fear in the hearts of the bravest of sailors. But once he was just a young man who dreamed of leaving his rigid life behind to chase adventure in faraway lands. Nothing could stop him—until he met the one girl who would change everything. This is their story.

Edward "Teach" Drummond, son of one of Bristol's richest merchants, has just returned from a year-long journey on the high seas to find his life in shambles. Betrothed to a girl he doesn’t love and sick of the high society he was born into, Teach dreams only of returning to the vast ocean he’d begun to call home. There's just one problem: convincing his father to let him leave and never come back.

Following her parents' deaths, Anne Barrett is left penniless and soon to be homeless. Though she’s barely worked a day in her life, Anne is forced to take a job as a maid in the home of Master Drummond. Lonely days stretch into weeks, and Anne longs for escape. How will she ever realize her dream of sailing to Curaçao—where her mother was born—when she's stuck in England?

From the moment Teach and Anne meet, they set the world ablaze. Drawn to each other, they’re trapped by society and their own circumstances. Faced with an impossible choice, they must decide to chase their dreams and go, or follow their hearts and stay.

 BLURB #2:

Some love is infinite

"Don’t have a best friend that’s a girl" — this was the advice from my older cousin. I didn’t take it. Because he followed with, "friends don’t f*ck friends. And you’ll want to f*ck her."

It was terrible advice.

My cousin should’ve told me that being best friends with Baylee Wright — since she was twelve — would be the best and worst decision of my life.

He should have told me to protect her from what was coming.

He should have told me that when a darkness crawled towards us, there’d be no safety net.

Now I’ve signed back on to the same Vegas acrobatic show as Baylee, working together for the first time in years. And she tells me that she’s having trouble in a certain “area” of her life — because of our past.

“You can help me fix it,” she says.

And then she hands me a list.

 BLURB #3:

Under the influence of their charismatic classics professor, a group of clever, eccentric misfits at an elite New England college discover a way of thinking and living that is a world away from the humdrum existence of their contemporaries. But when they go beyond the boundaries of normal morality their lives are changed profoundly and forever, and they discover how hard it can be to truly live and how easy it is to kill.

What a creative post! It was such fun to test myself. I’m a very visual person. Covers catch my eye. When there’s no cover I pay more attention to blurb. Also the author’s name influence my decision to read the book. I was intrigued by the blurb #2, when I find out who the author is, I was totally sold. Added it to my tbr-list.

I also think that covers and authors affect our decision whether we want to read books or not, while storyline should be the most important factor. That is why I created this meme. And I am glad to hear that blurb #2 caught your attention enough to add it to your TBR :)
I'm huge about blurbs - that's one of the main components on how I decide whether or not I'm going to read a book - and these blurbs seem really interesting. Thanks for sharing Lucia and, as always, fabulous post! <3

I am the same, if blurb does not catch my attention, I wont add book to my TBR. And I am glad that you enjoyed this post! :)
I love these posts!! #2 and 3 intrigued me. Totally adding #3 to my TBR since I enjoyed The Goldfinch from her. I never really looked into her other books.

I never read anything by her but blurb for Secret History won me over so I cannot wait to read it. Good to know The Goldfinch is also worth a try :)
I said no to the first two and yes to the third one. I think I like the short and sweet blurbs better most of the time.

True. Short and sweet blurbs sometimes carry more power than long complicated ones.
I knew what the first one was immediately! Mostly because I already have it on my TBR ;) I didn't think the second was for me but I really liked the sound of the third one. It's funny because I am actually reading that author's other book, that won the prize, right now! And I really love it so far, so maybe I should try that one afterwards.

You mean The Goldfinch? It is also on my TBR so it is good to hear that you are loving it :)
I knew the first one immediately too! Hehehe. So of course I would want that one ;) I liked the sound of the second book, but the third one wasn't for me. I think it's time to try some contemporary books! This was such a great idea of a post! :D

I like to mix it up as well if I am reading one genre for too long :) If you like the sound of the second book, I think you would enjoy all other novels by those authors (Ritchie twins are awesome!).
Ahhhhh you know how much I LOVE these posts!!!! <3 A huge YES to the first two synopsis. I'm super excited for both, actually! :)

It has been long since I did this feature, but I will try to make it a regular thing ;) I am also excited for all these books, #2 expecially!
The first one, HELL YES. Already pinning for it. The other two, eh...maybe

First synopsis totally makes you want to read such book immediately, right? It just sounds so good!
OOOOOH DAMN. Number 2 has my interest immediately. The way it was worded makes it sound like the girl changed his life for the worse... I just hope it's not some sort of manic pixie girl kinda thing again a la Paper Towns, though. The first one doesn't sound bad, too!

I haven't read Paper Towns but "manic pixie girl" does not sound very appealing to me either :) But blurb sounds too good to pass such a story!
AHhh so that first blurb TOTALLY caught me and I was like "I need this ASAP"...and turns out I'd already added it on cover-love but never read the blurb. xD So at least I know the cover doesn't lie, hehe.

Mention of young Blackbeard was all it took for me to add first book to my TBR :) But I do like cover as well!
